"I will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports," Ferrell said Friday before playing in a charity golf tournament hosted by one of his fraternity brothers from Southern California.
Ferrell was dressed almost as if he could step right into a golf movie.
"No, no golf movie. Yeah, I'm retired from sports-genre films. You know, I think I filled my quota," Ferrell said.
Among his sports-themed movies are Blades of Glory, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Semi-Pro.
Ferrell spoke to reporters before joining Craig Pollard for the 15th annual College for Cancer Golf Classic at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Pollard, a two-time survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma, uses the tournament proceeds to fund college scholarships for cancer survivors and amputees.
Ferrell was wearing loud black and white shorts, garish gold shoes, green socks and a white polo shirt that said "Army Guy The Movie."
Asked about "Army Guy," he said: "I don't know. I just put the shirt on."
And the shoes? "The shoes will definitely help my game. They're actually built for me from scientists at NASA, so I can actually levitate for 30 seconds, up to a height of 15 to 20 feet. I don't know how they'll help me with my golf game, but it's a cool trick."
